about

Early Single Release of Upcoming Live Recording--The Hogfiddle Sessions

Leadbelly wrote Western Cowboy in 1915. He was a real Cowboy and he made fun of Gene Autry because he was a showy pretend cowboy. But Leadbelly never played it on mountain dulcimer so we came up with a slightly different version.

lyrics

When I was a Cowboy Out on the western range
When I was a Cowboy Out on the western range
I made a half a million
Just pullin those bridle reins
Come a cow cow yippee
Come a cow cow yippe yippe aye
