Billy In the Lowground (gCDCD)

from Good Morning Banjo by Mary Z Cox

about

Many years ago I learned this tune in Tallahassee. Back then there were no distinctions between bluegrass, old time, folk & country. Everyone just played the tunes together. Bob Langston & Max Tillman were the predominant fiddlers in the area then and many of the tunes everyone played in jam sessions came from their repretoires. I'm pretty sure Bob Langston introduced "Billy In the LowGround" to Tallahassee in the key of C. The A part and the B part both go from C to Am. Over the years, many bluegrass musicians have recorded this tune but they usually go to F in the B part instead of Am. But I decided to record it in the way I first learned it & Tim fiddled it that way too.
